The osu!support system still does not function properly.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:02 AM PDT

If you're looking for the issues with [appeal-review@ppy.sh](mailto:appeal-review@ppy.sh), skip to that header.

    Introduction

It's quite known that the support team isn't the best. They have been put under scrutiny several times by the community, the Whitecat,IPogonyuto),Spare situations are just to name a few. After IPogonyuto's case, an appeal review system was created to handle alleged false restrictions and unfair cases. In this post, I aim to tell my experience with osu!support before and after this change and explain what steps need to be taken to improve osu!support in general.

    My Situation

Almost 3 years ago (August/September/November 2017) my account was restricted. I wasn't playing very much at that time, so reading the header that false cases are resolved automatically, I decided to forget about it. In December, I came back to the game but I was still restricted. So, I emailed support asking why I was restricted. They said I was multi-accounting. Now, I had no other account that I had used to play osu! so I was very confused. My brother had introduced me to the game but I had created the name and I had played on the account only.Due to this response, I didn't play the game at all for a period of about 4 months. When I came back, I didn't remember my account details. My biggest mistake here was that I decided to create a new account instead of resetting my password. Whether or not I remembered it was against the rules, I multi-accounted but it did get auto-banned immediately. Realizing why it was auto-banned, I logged back in my original account to confirm that I was still restricted. At the end of March, I sent another appeal to osu!support including my multi-account incident but received no reply. But in their defence, I emailed from an account not actually linked to my osu! account. I still should have received an email telling me this was the wrong email address.

    Rejected Appeals

The next year and a half would consist of me appealing every 3-6 months with the same info worded as strongly as I could. I told them my original account, my brother's account, my multi-accounting incident as well as explaining that we live in the same household thus we have the same IP address. Along with that info, I made clear the ownership of the accounts and that I have never played on his account and vice versa. Every appeal, I would get the same email back, a copy-paste (personal email blanked out) saying my account was restricted for multi-accounting and my original account was my brother's account. Throughout this time, I tried to follow the appeal guide on the support page. I explained my account history (when I got restricted, the multi-account incident) my reason (long break + forgotten account details/account status) how I did it (N/A) and why I should be let back (I did not multi-account in the first place, I wouldn't create a multi-account ever again and the punishment for multi-accounting is restricting the multi-account and leaving the original account unrestricted. shown here yet my appeals were met with no success.

Late 2019 and 2020 Appeals (Post WhiteCat)

My last appeal before this time was on 7/21/2019. I submitted appeals after 3 months as well as replies to the last appeal but they all were unanswered. I got a reply on 3/23/2020. This email was different though. I had provided the same information as all the other appeals, but this time, they said my appeal was insufficient and that I was hiding my history as well as being untruthful.

    [appeal-review@ppy.sh](mailto:appeal-review@ppy.sh)

After the appeal-review system was put into place, I wanted to guarantee that my appeal couldn't reasonably be denied. I reached out to this subreddit so I could know what would give me the best chance to be unrestricted. The general consensus was to create a live-play with both me and my brother at the same time. Thankfully, I am very lucky because my computer and my brother's computer are less than a meter apart. So I recorded the liveplay, from both our computers starting up to the end of the play. In between, I showed the task manager on both PCs, what account the PCs were logged into and the profile on the pass screen. All of that was time-stamped in the email and if that wasn't enough, I attached the replay files as well. On 6/29/2020 that email was sent out. For five days there was nothing. On 7/4/2020 my account became disabled completely. I thought that maybe they disabled my account so I wouldn't make any plays and they would finally look into my case. It was not the case. Five more days passed and nothing happened. At this point, I decided to contact @osusupport) on twitter. I was met with this reply. That being said, I decided to contact [appeal-review@ppy.sh](mailto:appeal-review@ppy.sh).

This appeal, sent on 7/10/2020 was essentially this post but with some more of my rejected appeals shown. I waited for 7 days. No response. I sent a reply to ping them as stated in the automatic reply and waited longer. No response. Then I sent a second reply 5 days later, No answer. the appeal has not been handled by any human as of today.

    Steps to Improve Support

My first suggestion is to improve the account restrictions support page. Currently, the page is devoid of any instructions to prove your innocence. There are no segments on innocent and false restrictions other than auto restrictions. I know that the support team is very certain with their actions but if they want to prove that they are right then there should be ample ways an innocent player can be unrestricted.

My second suggestion is regarding the appeal-review email. I may have been an odd case but I feel like no one actively operates that email. My username may just be blacklisted but if it's not then 3 weeks and 3 pings should be more than enough to receive a reply. If there were too many emails and mine just got lost then it would be great to have more people taking care of that email account.

My last suggestion ties into my previous two, I believe the support should look into cases further. I understand that with the player base of osu! it is anywhere from difficult to impossible to analyze each and every restriction case and appeal. But both in mine and WhiteCat's situations support provided the same response for the majority if not all of the appeals. A player should be able to prove themselves if they are accused of cheating and they should also be able to be forgiven after waiting several months.

    Conclusion

osu!support has not become better even after several public incidents showing how inefficient they are. I have been restricted for almost 3 years and my emails that include detailed evidence have been ignored. [appeal-review@ppy.sh](mailto:appeal-review@ppy.sh) did not respond to my emails even after several replies to notify them over 3 weeks. Finally, the restrictions support does not take into account human error when providing information on how to get unrestricted.

Thank you for reading this, it would be great if my emails were read and I hope my suggestions get implemented in one way or another.

    All current 1000 pp plays

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 10:31 PM PDT

    All current 1000 pp plays

I recently got curious about what portion of 1000 pp plays were achieved by WhiteCat so I spent a little bit of time compiling all of them with a bit of data about accuracy, length, etc. I figured I might as well share it here since I wasn't able to find anything exactly like this (shoutouts to that youtube playlist of all of them though).

If you want to look at everything, here's my spreadsheet: link. Otherwise, I'll summarize some of the interesting stuff here.

    List of plays:

There is currently a total of 29 plays over 1000 pp:

11 of these are over 1,100 pp:

The only 1,200 pp play, and the current pp record by 78 pp:

    Players:

All of these were achieved by just 8 players:

    • Akolibed (#55), 1k: 1
    • MeramiCat (idke) (#13), 1k: 1
    • FGSky (#12), 1k: 1 / 1.1k: 2 / 1.2k: 1
    • Merami (#11), 1k: 1 / 1.1k: 3
    • Micca (#4), 1k: 1
    • Vaxei (#3), 1k: 3
    • mrekk (#2), 1k: 2
    • WhiteCat (#1), 1k: 8 / 1.1k: 5

In total WhiteCat holds 13 out of the 29 plays, or just under 45%. He also achieved 5 of the 11 1.1k plays. The only player outside the top 15 to achieve 1k pp is Akolibed, who is also the only player to skip 900 pp entirely.

    https://preview.redd.it/x7vvhi0jj0e51.png?width=484&format=png&auto=webp&s=69f77e44aff201829bd12bc090523d6729939123

The United States is the only country with multiple 1k pp players, with MeramiCat and Vaxei. Coincidentally also the first 2 players to get 1k pp.

    Details:

Mods: 3 mod is unsurprisingly dominant, making up more than half the data. The only play that does not use DT is MeramiCat's HR on Songs Compilation.

    https://preview.redd.it/u1ioo00mj0e51.png?width=484&format=png&auto=webp&s=a7fbfaf5511232840846b9a1944aa6d108731249

The highest pp no mod play I could find (it's much harder to search for specific mod combos) is WhiteCat's 962 pp on Yomi Yori.

Accuracy: The average accuracy across these plays is 97.42%. Merami bears the distinction of the lowest acc play, with 85.25% on Ascension to Heaven HDHRDT. The highest acc belongs WhiteCat on Sunglow HDDT with 99.83%.

    Without Merami's 85%

57% are S ranks, 39% are As, and 4% (Merami's Ascension to Heaven) are Bs. 64% have 0 misses, while 32% have 1 or 2 (2 is significantly more common). FGSky's 4 mod on Yubi Bouenkyou has 5 misses.

Only 11 (39%) are FCs (plays with missed slider ends are excluded). Of these 8 are WhiteCat's, 2 are Vaxei's, and 1 is mrekk's.

    Mappers and Maps:

    Holy fuck Fiery. please chill.

    https://preview.redd.it/zofehgdrj0e51.png?width=484&format=png&auto=webp&s=912f6951b55546078aa59323d8e1e51fa7b8fc21

Fieryrage has generated more than twice as many 1k pp plays as any other mapper. All of these belong to only 4 maps: 3 on JUSTadICE, 2 on his quaver GD, 2 on his Guess Who Is Back GD, 2 on Yubi Bouenkyou, and 1 on his Lonely Go! GD.

JUSTadICE [Extreme] has the most 1k plays on a single difficulty with 3. The quaver mapset matches this with 2 on Fiery's Extra and 1 on Ultimate Crescendo (by Sotarks).

The average length of maps with a 1k pp score is 84 seconds (63 excluding outliers). Only 10 (35%) of these maps are longer than 60 seconds (considering mods used). Only 3 were longer than 2 minutes. Vaxei's HDDT on Tsukinami (3:09), WhiteCat's HDDT on Sunglow (3:23), and of course MeramiCat's HR on Songs Compilation (6:39).

    Excluding Songs Compilation

Nearly all of these maps are TV size, at 80-90 seconds at normal speed; with DT's 1.5 times speed they end up 50-60 seconds. The shortest map is mrekk's 3 mod play on Make a Move. MeramiCat's play on Songs Compilation is, again, the longest.

    Notes:

This was mostly done out of personal interest so it's pretty sloppy and the analysis is pretty surface level. All of this data is very accessible, I just wanted to create a single resource to compare all these plays. Please let me know if there are any mistakes.

Also, the decision to not count plays with missed slider ends as FCs was just a pragmatic decision. The osu! website displays perfect combos in green, and it's much easier to just check that than do manually check each no miss play to see if they slider break. Sorry lol
