i translated zekk's (new FA) twitter post. its kinda interesting so give it a read

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 02:14 AM PDT

this is his original twitter post

i thought it was interesting so i translated/transcribed most of his words word-for-word and added a bit of context and did a little bit of explanation here and there. i skipped a bit here and there where he repeats himself and tried to make it as understandable as possible because translating 100% of the authors' intentions is very difficult. I marked my own comments with an asterisk (*) to give more insight as to what he means as context can be a bit iffy for some people

    here we go:

osu! is a fan-made game that was supposed to directly copy the format of ouendan series and other rhythm games (*taiko, mania, etc.) This is fine and all, but it's been put in a rather negative light (*mostly true amongst korean rhythm game folks) due to it pushing the responsibility of mapping and other content creation to the users to avoid any kind of direct copyright disputes.

also, because it has never been made so that their infringed contents could somehow be ID'ed to give the original creators any kind of compensation/money, it was impossible to really see where and how their contents were being used. I had to spend a lot of time searching over the internet myself to see its uses and this has been a recurring problem for other content creators as well.

as time past by, the negative reputation only grew, which made me do a bit more research on how my music was being illegally copied/distributed specifically in osu! and its other potential impact on my contents.

after some research, i found out that the music that provided me with the most views and profit on my Spotify channel was, ironically, the song that was being illegally distributed in osu! via a form of an "official" map, which was downloaded about a million times.

it was undeniable that this track's popularity skyrocketed as soon as the map was made "official" as its popularity coincided with the date of the map being made "official". I was honestly surprised to find out that what I simply conceived as a simple copyright infringement case was now put in a a rather multidimensional dilemma where it was also having a rather positive impact as well. This became a case for my other songs and tracks.

i'm not trying to put all the copyright infringement cases on a positive light. i'm just saying that the copyright infringements that was supposed to harm us paradoxically benefited us as its given us a newer pie (*newer pie as in newer population of people who encountered his contents. pie generally means profit in this context).

    * after this he kinda repeats the whole copyright infringement stuff and how the FA system gives them money, and that osu! is profiting off via donation. he then reiterates how osu! was been given this negative reputation mostly because of 3 main reasons: copyright infringements, lack of responsibility/action and excessive expansion of fandom. he focuses heavily on the first one. he says that he couldn't exert his rights because osu! doesn't give it any ISRC ID's (*idk what this is) and had to end up simply just watch the traffic rise on the osu! website. *

after all, FA system was my only way of exercising my rights as an artist in osu!. it was the donation that was being distrusted back to the artists

not all FA artists have been signed via this context, but i felt that it was a compensation of the 5 years of copyright infringements that i've been suffering. i was first contacted back in 2018 and had a year-long discussion (*with the staff for FA) before coming to this conclusion so please don't take any of this lightly. (*i think he's addressing his fans who may question as to why he made a deal with the game of which he's been openly critical. just assuming here)

*tldr: osu infringed my rights for the past 5 years, but not without any positive impact. i made an FA signing to help receive my rightful "benefits" that I deserved and this is my explanation

    edit: few typos
